The Bemidji Public Library Presents Art Coulson

The Bemidji Public Library is excited to welcome Minnesota author Art Coulson to the library for a special all ages Storytime, Saturday, November 18 at 11:00 a.m. at the Bemidji Public Library, 509 America Avenue. Bemidji.  Join us as Art reads from his books The Reluctant Storyteller and Look, Grandma! Ni Elisi! and shares some traditional Cherokee stories.   

Art Coulson is a writer of Cherokee, English and Dutch descent and comes from a family of storytellers in all three traditions.  The author of more than a dozen books, graphic novels and plays, Art served as the first executive director of the Wilma Mankiller Foundation in the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma after a career in journalism that included a stint as editorial page editor of the St. Paul Pioneer Press. His book The Reluctant Storyteller was named a best book of 2020 by Bank Street and American Indians in Children’s Literature while Look, Grandma! Ni, Elisi! was named a best STEM children’s book by the National Science Teaching Association in 2021 and was featured on the inaugural broadcast of Reading Rainbow Live.  

The Bemidji Public Library is committed to providing the community with informational resources to enrich their lives. The library is open from 9/7 Monday through Thursday and 9/5 Friday and Saturday and provides a wide range of services to its patrons including WIFI, fax, printing, copying and our legal kiosk. This program, and many others, is made possible through the Minnesota Legacy Amendment which supports the arts, culture, and heritage of Minnesota.
