The Wadena City Library’s summer reading program has begun! The theme is Reading Takes You Everywhere.
You can head to the landing page to register.
Every year in June and July, kids from birth to entering high school seniors can participate and record which books they have read. The program is meant as a bridge between May and September school learning, preventing what educators call “summer slide.”
Pre-K to fifth graders are expected to read (or be read to) for 10 hours over eight weeks, which averages to fifteen minutes per weekday.
Sixth to twelfth graders can graduate from the program with 30 minutes per day.
We have some neat events planned in conjunction with the summer reading program.
We will end the program with some magic as Professor Marvel returns on Monday, July 30th at 1PM with a themed show of astounding illusions. After the magic show, we will have the drawing for our assortment of grand prizes, with one chance for each kid that completed the program.
We will also have our regular story time Wednesdays at 10AM with Ms. Leanne, allowing preschool kids to invite along their older siblings and hear stories and make crafts. This year, she will have a “passport” to be stamped at each story time!
Mondays at 2PM will have special summer story times, either for ages 4-7 (Gaston and Antoinette) or ages 7-10 (graphic novels like The Incredibles).
The schedule is still being compiled, and there will be a lot to do this summer, so we hope you stop in and bring some friends!
