The Brainerd Public Library was established in 1904 and was a founding member of the Kitchigami Regional Library system in 1969. Originally housed in a Carnegie library, the current building was constructed in 1986.

Friends of the Library
Friends of the library are non-profit groups that support libraries in the community.
Friends are separate from KRLS and each group is made up of volunteers.
Local Library Board
Meets on the fourth Wednesday of each month at 5:30 pm at the Brainerd Public Library small conference room.
Finance Committee Meets at 5:00 pm prior to all meetings.
